I have just upgraded to 6.1.1 GA2. Whn I fire up the server, I end up with

lrwxrwxrwx 1 liferay liferay 60 2012-08-11 18:40 magick-XX6JcIaw -> /usr/local/liferay/data/document_library/10112/10136/539/1.1
-rw------- 1 liferay liferay 991384508 2012-08-11 18:40 magick-XXk14De4
-rw------- 1 liferay liferay 1 2012-08-11 18:40 magick-XXSrsvai

What is going on. I just added a Gb to my VM, and most of it has been swallowed. Is this a runaway process, or is it just greedily grabbing all of the buffer storage it can?

Is there a property that will limit this?

I just gave it another Gb, and the Magick temp file still seems to be the same size, so it doesn't look as though it's a runaway.

It was indeed temporary. It has gone away now. Something to be aware of if you have a collection of large images, and you are running in a tight disk space configuration. I noticed it when my mail server spat the dummy about lack of mail queue space.

There was a bug in liferay 6.0 about temporary files not being properly deleted all the time but that has been fixed. I think the temporary files just swallows up the amount of available disk space allowed so it should work properly even with less disk space.

Thanks Hitoshi. There are some gotchas with Image Magick though.

Here are the relevant properties.
imagemagick.resource.limit.area=2GiB
#imagemagick.resource.limit.disk=16GiB
#imagemagick.resource.limit.file=256
imagemagick.resource.limit.map=1GiB
imagemagick.resource.limit.memory=2GiB
#imagemagick.resource.limit.thread=2
#imagemagick.resource.limit.time=3600

It looks as though you need plently of resources if you want to enable this. I'm curious to know the circumstances in which it is invoked.
