I have a few session attributes that I am setting in portlets and using from the portal. I would like the pieces which depend on these session attributes to work even for users who are not signed in. I have tested this a little, and it seems that signing in has no effect on whether or not the session attributes are successfully set and received. However, I just want to know if anyone else has any experience / knowledge on this. Does signing into Liferay have any effect on the session and its attributes?

The session is created as soon as you hit the application container. It is valid for any incoming HTTP request and, therefore, so are portlet sessions.

When you log in liferay will set some of it's own session variables, but the session is not created just by logging in.
